Đến nay, những thông tin được hé lộ cho thấy iPhone mới sẽ sở hữu màn hình cảm ứng Force Touch tương tự như trên Apple Watch hay Macbook 12 inch vừa ra mắt. Trong vài năm qua, Apple đã hợp tác liên tục với các đối tác để có thể sản xuất hàng loạt loại linh kiện này. Nó cho phép người dùng sử dụng nhiều tính năng khác nhau trên một thiết bị tuỳ vào lực nhấn tay lên bề mặt (hoặc trackpad đối với MTXT). Nhiều nguồn tin cũng khẳng định thân vỏ của máy mới sẽ cứng cáp hơn so với hiện tại.

Bên cạnh đó, sẽ không có gì lạ khi iPhone 6s mới sẽ có ngoại hình tương tự như phiên bản hiện tại (giống với phiên bản 5s và 5 trước kia). Việc sản xuất hàng loạt hai mẫu máy này sẽ thực sự khởi động vào tháng tới.

Thực tế, hầu như năm nào, iPhone mới cũng có mặt trong khoảng tháng 9 và tháng 10, nhưng trong năm nay, nhà mạng Vodafone (Anh) đã vô tình đưa lịch bán hàng của mình lên mạng – ngày 25-09-2015 – cùng lịch đặt hàng trước bắt đầu khởi động từ 18-09-2015. Thêm vào đó, trong email gửi cho trang tin MobileNews, một nhân sự của Vodafone cũng xác nhận hãng viễn thông này sẽ bán iPhone mới kể từ thời điểm nói trên.

Dù email này không nói rõ iPhone tiếp theo sẽ mang tên gì nhưng gần như chắc chắn Apple sẽ sử dụng tên gọi iPhone 6s và iPhone 6s Plus thay vì iPhone 7. Máy mới được cho là sẽ có cải thiện về cấu hình, bổ sung thêm bộ nhớ và tích hợp cảm ứng Force Touch (trên phiên bản Plus).
